Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday inaugurated Infosys' Global Education Center-II at its Mysore campus. Speaking at the company campus, Sonia Gandhi did not miss the opportunity to gently remind the IT community of the government’s supportive role in the IT growth story. Sonia said the success of Infosys, India's second largest software exporter, should not be measured in dollars alone, but in the difference it makes in transforming a society for the better. "You have shown to India and the world that an Indian company cannot just be world class, but be ahead of the rest of the world", she said. Infosys' second phase of its global education centre is the largest corporate education centre in the world and can train 14,000 employees at any given time. With a total built up area of 1.44 million square feet, the GEC I and II, will have 147 training rooms, 485 faculty rooms, 42 conference rooms, five assessment halls, an induction hall, a cyber cafe and two libraries which can house over 1,40,000 books. “We need to progress to raise confidence of people – one of ways to progress is building infrastructure like roads, public buildings, that's why we built this,” said Infosys chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy at the occassion. Gandhi also said the success of Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services and other companies had changed the lives of millions of Indians and propelled the country's economy to a record-breaking growth. Infosys may have been economical with its revival in hiring and salary hikes compared to its peers, but we also know the $4 billion plus software giant is generous in areas including human resource development. |
